What a week! This week my husband’s Green Card application was approved. We can book the flights and start the plans for our new life in America.
The Visa arriving was an early birthday gift. It came the day before my birthday. I was so happy, I actually cried – a lot. These plans of ours have been in the works for nearly two years now and the visa arriving made it real.
We are going – and soon. We can book the flights and the movers and start looking for a place to rent (we can’t buy until we have two years of income and credit history) – We’re literally starting from scratch.
It’s like being 18 again (without the body). No credit history (for my husband anyway. I’ve built my score over the last year.) and I even have to re-take my driver’s test!
One thing I didn’t consider was picking a place to live. It’s going to be tricky. We have to find a place to rent that we’ll want to buy (in the same school district ) so we won’t have to put our son through being the new kid again.
We planned the whole move around him starting middle school with everyone else. Because he’s advanced for his age, he’ll start school in September and take some time to adjust to life in the US. Everyone in his grade will be new to the school and it will kinda be a level playing field. So we either rent for three years while he goes through middle school or buy in the same area.
If this sounds excessive, you probably missed my Going Home post. My son has Asperger syndrome so we need to keep things as easy as possible for him without any more big changes. Change is never easy for anyone on the spectrum. We can’t uproot him twice. There is much to consider and I’m trying to take it one day at a time.
I got another big birthday gift this week – Last month Erren’s Kitchen came close to a million page views! 945,687 to be exact. If only January was two days longer!
I am so proud of the growth of this little blog. I have worked so hard to get here and it’s really paying off. When we get to The States, the first thing we’ll do is register a business and begin our journey as a company and brand.
I have all of you to thank. If not for all of you, this new life we’re about to start wouldn’t be taking place. My husband’s business has always seen us through our life here in the UK, but he can’t take it with us – Erren’s Kitchen is another story. Our journey has begun.
